Blogging About Fear

From Pastor Greg

Hello family and friends. In light of everything that has now changed our lives, for the good or for the worse, I felt it necessary to take keyboard in hand and share my heart. Our worlds seem to be all turned upside down, huh?

Let me share something that came to mind today. As I was at work and discussing this business with some team mates, Godly men, it appeared to me that history always repeats itself. Yes, we had a pandemic in 1918 and have had bad stuff in various times since, but, in our lifetimes so far, this is the real deal. Let’s look at times in the Bible were “self-quarantine” and distancing took place where if one was found out in public, it meant death.

In Acts 8 : 1-8, we read that after Stephen had been martyred, that, vs 1 “On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the Apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria”. Fear gripped them. And in Matthew 26:31 Jesus tells the Apostles that the shepherd will be struck and the sheep will scatter as quoted in Zechariah 13. And as we all do in trying times, just like Peter’s response, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will”. Well, we know how that went; Peter disowned Jesus all three times as Jesus had told him he would.

But here is were the real rubber meets the real road. In Acts 8 : 4, if we continue to read, we see that it tells us, “Those who had been scattered preached the Word wherever they went.”

What does that tell us folks? Yes, we have fear. I would be lying to you all if I said I was not in any way afraid of what may happen to my family, my friends or the community in which I serve. There are hurting people of this world who need us! In vs 5 it says that Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed Christ there! So shall we! In our fear, in our concern, we need to SERVE! Be the light on a hill. Be the one who people know has an answer to their questions. “What is going to happen?’ What is going to happen is that, in this life we will have issues, problems, death and disease. But, we know WHO HE IS THAT HOLDS TOMORROW! The KING!

So please, read 2 Timothy 4:2. Take it to heart.

1In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction.

And to close with Acts 8 : 8….. 8 So there was great joy in that city.

Help bring joy to what ever city or community you serve. Serve GOD by serving them!

God Bless
